![]() | Francis Real PhD Thesis | Summary: Dr. Francis Real obtained his PhD in Computer Science (Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Spain) in the use of decision tables to represent the knowledge about clinical diagnosis, therapeutic procedures, and prognosis. His models were applied to the training of clinical residents of the Emergency Department at the Clinical Hospital of Barcelona. Two were the prarticular areas of application: the training in the differential diagnosis of secondary causes of hypertension and essential hipertension, and the training in the emergency management of patients in shock (7 different shocks were considered: septic, anaphylaptoid, cardiac taponade, etc.). His software also implemented long term patient simulation. |
Aida Kamišalić PhD Thesis |
Summary: Dr. Aida Kamisalic obtained his PhD in Computer Science (University of Maribor, Slovenia) in the combined integration of health care knowledge about clinical process strategies, drug titration, and interaction management. She also suggested two models to represent time knowledge in clinical processes: micro-temporality, and macro-temporality. |

Joan Albert López-Vallverdú PhD Thesis |
Summary: Dr. Joan-Albert López-Vallverdú obtained his PhD in Computer Science (Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Spain) in the application of incremental machine learning techniques to induce Clinical Algorithms from clinical data about episodes of care. His technologies were applied to the derivation of experience-based clinical algorithms for several chronic diseases while managed in primary care (SAGESSA): hypertension, diabetes, and chronic heart failure. |

John A. Bohada PhD Thesis |
Summary: Dr. John A. Bohada obtained his PhD in Computer Science (Univesitat Politecnica de Catalunya, Spain) in the implementation and integration of unsupervised and supervised machine learning algorithms to construct SDA structures (standing for State, Decision, and Action structures) to represent the clinical actions performed in health care centers whose data were stored in clinical information systems, and therefore allowing the retrospective analysis of long term clinical actions and the quality analysis in terms of comparing them with clinical guideline standards, protocols, and pathways. |
